Great oil pump
I needed this to change the oil in my boat. I was told that the boat should run for a few minutes to heat up the oil to be thinner so the pump would pull it out. I don't have the luxury to warm up the engine because it is in a dry storage unit. Took the chance and tried to pump out the oil stone cold (air temp about 85-90 degrees). As long as you're not in any hurry the pump did pump out the oil. It took about 30 minutes or so because the oil seemed to be intermittently sucked out (not a continuous flow). At first I was a little concerned that the pump may over-heat. To my relief, it never did. You knew all the oil was out when the tube looked like it was just sucking air. Pump works better than expected. With that said, and this was not a good reason to deduct a star, the suction tube could have been a couple of feet longer for my particular application. The battery in my boat was farther away from the engine than what would be considered convenient. As is, it still worked but I bought a longer hose for next time for more convenience. Hope this helps.

JABSCO Oil Change Kit
I used mine on my houseboat. The good part is that its very clean way to change oil without accidentally slinging it everywhere. I stained some fairly new carpeting on our last boat and heard about it relentlessly from the "War Department ".The bad parts: The suction tube gets inserted down the dipstick tube. Being plastic and not being able to accurately tell when the tube is at the bottom, I ended up leaving anywhere from a quart to a quart and a half of old oil in the engines. (2 mains and the generator.) Also, the recessed plastic pour spout is more than difficult to extend by hand. Had to use pliers which will shorten its life. Disposing of old oil is a pretty clean and easy operation.

you must run the motor before you start trying to remove the oil.
Let me preface this review by saying I don’t give reviews generally as it’s a waste of my time . I have had two other manual oil removers, which never lasted much more than a year. this is a great little oil remover. I have been using this unit for about two years every day removing the oil from generators. Found to be very dependable and reasonably quick as long as you run your motor first in order to thin the oil out so it flows easy. The quarter inch tubing that is installed on the unit is great to go down the dipstick to remove the oil. However this limits the pump in being able to have a lot of suction in order to get the oil out.. so you can’t expect the little pump to suck the oil out very fast. For a generator I have increased the suction size of the hose to half inch.. This increases the speed of which you remove the oil from the motor probably five or six times as fast. if you have a larger hose, the faster, the removal of oil. this is a great little pump and I would recommend it to anybody that would need a pump for removing oil. it has lasted me two years at this point using it every day tells me fairly reliable. yes it’s a little pricey but well worth it.

This pump never worked as described , should have returned it.
This pump has not worked correctly since day one . Purchased 12-14-21. Took. Hours to withdraw oil from Volvo engine d4-300. I have tried everything, bucket as low as engine, taped tube to help suction , removed dip stick and filler cap , talked with Jabsco representative , tried on Buick Enclave ( absolutely nothing ) . This spring I let it run while I did other chores on boat , 4hrs of hearing dribbles and squirts I had the oil out. Yes I did warm up engine . I read that others had found debris from factory inside . I disassembled and cleaned , no debris found . Tried again and as per factory rep checked for suction at pump , almost no suction. Pump never worked even when low enough that it should have worked thru siphon. Very sorry I did not return after i first tried to use it. I had never seen one used or used one myself so I keep trying to find a way to get it to work , no success. I see good reviews and absolutely awful reviews , so it works or it does not. I lost .

Excellent for boat engines
I purchased this to change the oil on my two V8 boat engines. I warmed the engines up to normal operating temperatures, shut them off inserted the tube down the dipstick and in about 10 minutes I had six quart drained, no mess very easy.

Worth Every Penny!!!
This takes the hassle out of changing oil in your marine application! I'll never not have one of these! I used this on my Chevy small block and DID NOT have an issue with the drain tube getting stuck in the dipstick tube.

Spill free oil changes.
This unit does a great job draining the oil out of my boat and one of my cars. I noticed that not all dipstick tubes are able to accommodate the 1/4" ridgid tubing. I got a scare when on one of my vehicles I put the tube down the dipstick with ease, but on the way out it got stuck, it took quite a bit of force to remove the tube to the point I was scared that it would break off inside the engine, which would be a very costly/time consuming repair. This is best suited to change oil on boats where the dipstick tube is designed for this operation, not all vehicles can have their oil changed this way. This product does however suck oil out very quickly and makes oil changes a very quick and clean way to get them done.

This item works perfect!!
Perfect! Did the job much better than the manual "pump" fluid extractors that I have owned and did the job in a 1/3 rd of the time!! Had to change the oil in two large v-8 engine inboards, two transmissions for same, generator engine oil and this worked great!Unlike many other similar units that I researched, this unit's handle is fastened securely with the addition of cable ties and keeps it up-right!No leaking, no spilling and very portable,, easy to empty and easy to carry!!

Not reliable and way more expensive than others
Bought last summer. Worked for 2 oil changes then not pumping anymore. Always warming the oil before and it does not work. Nowhere to go for warranty. Beware buyers..
