Q: Does this require a cartridge to control the water temperature ? If so is there a specific type or brand that should be used ?

The package has all the parts that are needed to get it functional. Although, the black coating seems to wear off pretty easy. The water pressure is great. The alignment for shower/handshower knob is little off on our lever set.

Q: can the rain shower head work simultaniously with the shower wand?

Yes you and it works perfectly. Both at the same time is amazing
