Pet Genie Ultimate Pet Waste Odor Control Pail for Dogs and Small Animals

I walk my dog throughout the day and twice daily he does his "business" after eating. I was using supermarket bags to drop the poo bags into and just putting them in my trash dumpster. In my subdivision, dumpsters are stored in garages. Well I got sick of my garage smelling like doo-doo and contemplated buying a diaper genie and re-purposing it for my dog's waste. I didn't even know there was such a thing as a Pet Genie until i searched online! Well, I bought one and I LOVE IT!!! Now, when returning from our walks, I deposit his poo bags in the Pet Genie which sits next to the dumpster in the garage and empty it once a week on trash pick-up day. So happy...My garage no longer smells like dog poo, and even with the hot Georgia summers and how hot it gets in my garage, the Pet Genie perfectly contains the aroma. Not sure how this would work with a big dog's waste; I guess you'd have to empty it more often(?), but for my 10lb Yorkie's "business", it's perfect for a once a week empty in time for trash day.

I purchased the pet genie to use for my dog poop bags. We keep it on the porch and just put the bag in the container as we go in the house.I love this product as it is plastic and does not rust, obviously, as our metal can did. Also, the odor is completely controlled, which was the primary reason I tried it.We have a 50 lb dog who poops 2-3 times a day and the capacity is large enough to last at least a week.

The Pet Genie arrived quickly. It included the Genie itself as well as a one full package of bags, and clear directions. The gray color is nice and neutral, blends in well hiding behind a shrubs near the door. Now, as far as using the genie. It is not easy to use. The outer door does not stay completely shut, it sits about an 1/8th to 1/4" open. That will not be good when it rains or snows. On the inner door, maybe we could call it the "chute": if we push down where the label indicates (@ the hinge side), the Genie door will not open at all and the Genie itself will start to tip towards us. Using a pretty good amount of force, at the completely opposite end, we push the chute door down and then have to push the waste bag into the collection bag inside the Genie. We have a 5# Havamalt and a 10# Havanese. Their poops are tiny. I cannot imagine trying to get a big dog's waste in there. I really wanted to like this gadget. I thought it would be great. The design is flawed in my opinion. It should have a step-on pedal to open the top and the chute simultaneously, so all you have to do is drop the waste bag in. As it is, I keep waiting for the day that either my hand gets caught in the chute door or the waste bag breaks and I have dog poop all over my hand. Maybe the Genie we received is flawed, I don't know. The product has more favorable reviews than unfavorable, so maybe that is the case. After using it for almost two weeks, though, I can't say that I would recommend it to anyone.

This is a great idea, however I wish there was a way to more easily add waste into the container. Something about having to push down and put my hand part way into the container (where other waste is sitting) is a bit disgusting. A function to open by stepping on a lever would be preferred. Should have just gotten the diaper genie, as it seems to serve the same purpose without having to touch anything nor bend over to do so, and is nearly the same price.

We use this in our garage to keep the dog poop contained between garbage days. We always use poop bags and tie them but putting them in the regular trash can in the garage was disgusting and smelled up the entire garage - especially in the Texas summer. We started using the Pet Genie and our garage no longer smells and it is small, contained and holds a week's worth of poop bags from our dog. This is a GREAT product for any dog owner that needs to hold on to the poop between trash pick up days!!

I live in an apartment complex and keep it outside, because there is an odor when you open it to put a poop bag in. It can be very discrete as you can see in side view picture (excuse my crispy pine tree, trying to save it). I put my puppy's name on it so no one will think anyone can use it and grayed it out for this photo. The top has a very strong hinged closure that you have to press with your hand and it shuts closed with a good seal which helps with odors and keeping any other pests out but be careful not to pinch your hand/fingers. It is easy to open, cut the bag off with the covered blade inside, tie a knot, dispose and pull a new length of plastic bagging, tie a knot and your done.

Reading other reviews helped make this product work the way I needed. I bought the charcoal bags to but at the bottom and purchased zip ties. Instead of tying the bag in knots and wasting, ziptied at the very end and the top when throwing away, cut right above and ziptied new one at bottom. Stuck at least 8 normal size puppy pad in one bags worth that filled the genie

Contrary to some of the reviews, I found this poop can effective and convenient. It does a great job regarding, well eliminating odors. I found the instructions a bit confusing, but that was my fault as my expectations overrode what the instructions indicated. The bag cartridge dispenses from the sides, up over and down the center past the trap door into the container. The trap door seals the bag at the top containing all odors. Easy, once you install the bag cartridge the first time. Quite clever really. Great price and good quality in my opinion.
