Remember this is mechanical so wind it to get it started at least 40 winds
Nice watch and if you do the winding it self winds just fine. For those of you that don't know when it says Mechanical and Automatic you should start by winding the watch 30 or 40 times(Back and Forth) and it will get enough to keep it running indefinitely. I wound mine when I got it and have not had any problems taking it off at night and putting it on in the morning for months. Exhalant Watch and good looking and at a good price.

Excellent watch!
I use this watch everyday. Its durability and quality are way better than the ones you buy elsewhere. I love the size of the watch. Keeps perfect time and shows the date and day. It is a great value for the price.

Great watch but caveat emptor!
(Note: see updates at the end of this review. The warranty is GTG). This is a genuine Seiko 5 but it is a gray market good! SEIKO WILL NOT HONOR THE WARRANTY - but for $60 who cares? Also, this watch is NOT WATERPROOF to 99 feet as advertised. It can handle getting wet (washing hands, rain) but that's it. Do not wear this watch into the shower, the steam will defeat the seals.Absolutely gorgeous watch. The dial is not as striking as in the photo from most angles but is still very handsome. I'm happy with my purchase.Update 4/22/15: Seiko has informed that Amazon IS an authorized retailer, even though the warranty card that came with my watch is blank. They told me to include my Amazon invoice as proof of purchase when requesting service under warranty. I will mail my watch in for repair in the next few weeks and see what happens.Update 11/5/15: I stand corrected. Seiko repaired my cracked crystal under warranty. Total cost $49.16.

Working Again
I purchased this watch in January for my husband. It is a nice watch with a good wrist band. It was working fine when I got it. It just stopped working suddenly today. This watch is supposed to last. I purchased it because of the convenience of not having to wind it and not needing to constantly replace a battery.Update: My husband took it to the jeweler and he got it working again. He said it was a bit of dust inside. Don't know how that happened when it was never opened before. Didn't cost anything at the jeweler.

Best Automatic watch in this price range
Looks elegant. Very good for gifting. I bought it to gift my dad. This is a very nice watch. It is a perfect size dial for men. Performance related, I will post another review after sometime.

Timekeeping: Most Important Characteristic of a Time piece
I have owned several Seiko watches in the past and have been very impressed with them both in accuracy and excellent design. So very disappointed with this one. Not for the looks or external features, it is very nice in every way. My biggest disappointment is with timekeeping. Am I really nitpicking with regard to accuracy? Here's my experience with it so far after two and a half weeks of use: this watch loses one minute every week. I've compared it to an atomic watch and clock daily and can see the change. Am just wondering if this may be just an isolated case for this one specific watch. Would any of current owners please check this out and confirm accuracy? I do intend to return this watch.Update Feb, 2018: The Auto mechanism does not work anymore.

Best value for money
Seikos are known for their strong price-performance value, and the SNKL 79 is definitely no exception. The blue sunburst dial with gold markers is absolutely stunning. The accuracy and the quality of the bracelet may cause some concern, yet in this price range, none of the watches in the market can top this.

love it.
seiko 5's are great.i bought this one with the knowledge that it was going to get a different band right away, so i won't be reviewing the band.right out of the box it looks better than the photo you see here (i will be posting a couple pics with the band i chose) because the gold trim isn't as gold as it looks in the pic.the lume is very good and the way the hands and markers catch the light makes this watch super readable in low light situations.the face of the watch couldn't be better. great detail work, as always, by seiko.the case is just the right size for my wrist.after a tried a couple leather bands, i dug out a modena 20mm rubber diver strap and squeezed it on (this watch actually calls for a 18mm) and for some reason i just loved the way it looked...and felt.after that i pulled off the case back and popped out the crown and lubed the seals (probably voided the warranty so beware!!)...and then i spent a few days regulating it and the results were pretty great. i put up a pic about that, too.hope i helped.
